Reader-of-the-Week

Reading fluency & reading comprehension go hand-in-hand.  One cannot understand the words without being able to read the words.  One of the goals in second grade is for each child to correctly read 140 words per minute ... while comprehending what they read.  We will be working on many skills to help improve their reading fluency over the course of the year.  One of the ways to help reach this goal is by having your child as the READER-OF-THE-WEEK!  
Your child will be given a date & time (at least 2 weeks in advance) when he/she will be reader-of-the-week.  Your child may choose any reading passage: chapter from a book, poem, lyrics to a song, etc. They may choose what they like as long as it is at their reading level.  They will practice reading at home & on the day of their scheduled reading, they will read to the class what they have practiced.  I encourage parents to come in at that time & be part of this exciting event for your child in the 2nd grade!
